Teaching writing

I teach both practical and ‘creative’ writing.  The practical course covers the basics such as:

  • Grammar and punctuation - the basics of being understood and respected on the page.

  • Style - how to keep the reader’s attention and produce writing that is attractive.

  • The process of writing - thinking of your audience, marshalling material, drafting, redrafting, presentation.

  • Writing in various contexts - email, reports, sales letters, love letters (etc.)

The course lasts a day.

I also teach more ‘creative’ writing (though I dislike the implication that practical writing is not creative!), through workshops.  I believe everyone has a lot to say and that if I can make people clearer, more confident and more imaginative in how they do this, then I’ve done a good job.  Ultimately, writing is about finding your voice or voices, which only you can do.

Right now, I’m so busy with other projects that I have neither type of teaching planned - but if you are interested, please email me on chris@chriswest.info.

And watch this space, as I love teaching writing and am keen to get back to doing it again when time allows.
